Individual Counseling Students are welcome to come in to meet with their School Counselor at anytime. Students are welcome to stop by the School Counseling office at any time to see if their counselor is available, or they can email their counselor to request an appointment. Students seek out their School Counselor for a wide variety of reasons including difficulty with peers, struggling academically in a class, course planning and career & college exploration. Students are encouraged to meet with their counselor if they are experiencing negative feelings or have concerns about another student.
Group Counseling Occasionally, the Guidance Department offers time-limited, topic-specific groups when the need arises. Students may be invited to join a group when appropriate, and it is the student's decision as to whether they want to participate. Topics of groups that have been run in the past include focusing on developing appropriate social skills and dealing effectively with stress.
Course Registration Every year, students will be asked to participate in the scheduling process as they choose their classes for the following year. School Counselors will meet with students to discuss their choices and teacher recommendations as they select both courses required for graduation and electives choices.
Post-High School Counseling Beginning in the Junior year, School Counselors will work closely with students and their families to determine which post-high school opportunities are most appropriate for them. Both individual and group meetings will be scheduled with students and parents over the course of Junior and Senior years to introduce and discuss post-high school options, including two- and four-year colleges/universities, technical/trade schools, military options and various career paths. In the Senior year, School Counselors will work closely with students and their families to complete the appropriate application and financial aid processes needed for their chosen post-high school plans.
